I get the impression that Simon Yates is not that comfortable with all the post race commitments that go with wearing the leaders jersey. He certainly sounded a bit hacked off with the persistent questioning of his teams performance at the end of stage 10.

It occurred to me that he could probably send his brother to handle that side of things. Most people seem unable to tell them apart. :)

Hi,
Yates looks good after TT, well done.
Quintana is always the politician post race interviews like contador was, but not sure he thinks whilst ridding.
Yes looks interesting rest of race but yates is a cool rider for sure so I hope nothing unexpected comes up.
Without radios of course it would look very different for sure.

Yates has got it right leads from the rear good job, both Quintana and Valverde have flaws...........together maybe but sense division of who is who wants and what orders.

The King of the Mountains prize is still very undecided :D

Mate Mardones hasn't done much over past week or so, [ i don't know why (?) ]
and Thomas de Gendt has almost gained more points and possibly will by the end of todays stage (?)

Meanwhile, Mollema is concentrating his efforts to regain his 3rd place from Ben King.

Anyone in the top four KOM could succeed in winner the climber jersey in Madrid on Sunday

The summit finish in todays Stage 17 is particularly evil

I must stay off the internet, in particular the BBC sport page, before I watch the highlights, today and tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for Simon Yates in today's final mountain stage. On yesterdays showing he looked stronger than any of his nearest GC challengers.

Stage 20: The hot race with-in the race is the blue poker-dot climbers jersey.

Thomas De Gendt has gained the top spot and looks set favourite to win, but todays tough but short fast and frantic exciting mountain stage should bring out the other contestants, Ben King and Bauke Mollema, either of which could win enough climber points to gain an overall win for Climber Jersey at the end of todays stage :D

...and rider number 161 must be feeling really cheesed off after getting piped at the post so many times by rider 64

I shouldn't laugh being a Trek supporter :(

Meanwhile, the fight is on for who gets on the red jersey podium for 2nd and 3rd places... (?)

Is the last stage a promenade like in the TdF?

yay! Yates rode a blinder on Saturday; pretty spawny though; what are the chances of having two blokes go up the road that were no threat to him and were mainly hoping for a better place in the top ten / a stage win....?

First time ever that one nation has taken all three grand tours in one year with three different riders, apparently.

cheers

Hi,
Yes well done Yates.
How do you think he would / will rate next year in GT's?
Age is well on his side.

Pretty high, given that the racers could probably see that Moviestar had turned up with one leader trying to ride himself into form for a shot at the world championship and another tired after riding the Tour de France. Besides, do we think young riders not on the podium are going to care much where in the top ten they finished? Neither López or Más can win the World Tour and their teams probably aren't that bothered by a few more ranking points, as Astana probably can't move beyond mid-table and Quick Step already lead by thousands.

I would think he'll be a serious GC contender next year, but in context i believe one large reason he won Vuelta is due to the numerous hilly stages and mountain stages with summit finishes, and will quite a few steep gradients along the way, Simon Yates pure climber build gave him an advantage with this years stages, although should be said he also impressed with his 32km time trail performance which could so easily have been his downfall.

Another question is of course the team support, and will Mitchelton-Scott be strong enough around Simon in next years GTs (?)

Hi,
On the final day with manager / yates, it was said they will have to look at the courses as to whether it will suit them, makes sense.
