We have a local cycling group who call themselves 'The Wheezers'. Their strapline is 'A drinking club with a cycling disorder'

I follow a You tuber who is a member of Bynea CC (Ed Laverack) and it's interesting to hear the pronunciation. I would have thought it was Bye-Knee, but it is actually pronounced Bin-Yer.

Much like the Slob CC. We peaked at 4 members, but we were CTT (RTTC in those days) affiliated and we did compete. We were all members of other clubs as well. This was our badge.

Sorry to digress slightly but a couple of mates are part of the Whitecroft And Nearby Keener Enthusiastic Rider Society. A motorcycle group though.

As a youth in the 70's I rode against riders from lots of interesting named clubs.

The Archer RC actually hailed from London, Kettering Friendly were quite good chaps! I started my riding career with the 45 Road Club, the A45 went through town and in a similar vein nearby we had the A5 Rangers. You didn't need to travel far to come across Verulum CC (St Albans), Godiva CC (Banbury?)

When I moved north there were a bunch of new names to get to grips with, I joined the Rutland CC named for the Duke not the county, I always wondered what Chesterfield Couriers actually carried. Other were known affectionately by nicknames, the Donkey Wheelers for example (Doncaster). Then there were the atomic Fusion CC and Rockingham CC (Rotherham) shouldn't be confused with Rockingham Forest Wheelers (Corby).

I'm sure if I got my race sheets out I could find many, many more! :D
Convention? what's that then?
