one of the riders pointed out that when things go wrong, you can easily lose a minute per kilometre on a climb. Anything could yet happen....

I'd like G to win for sure but I don't think it would be a bad thing for cycling as a whole if a French bloke won it; it is well overdue.

cheers

I wouldn't be surprised if the lead changed twice before Sunday.

Alternative punishment ideas:-

Penalty weights.

Make them ride a tandem together for tomorrow's stage, but delay their start by a few minutes.

The 1st Team Award has ping-ponged between Trek and Movistar all this tour, lost count how many times, but yesterday Movistar were leading by over half and hour, but after today with Mollema, Skujins, and Stuyven finishing with the breakaway 20 minutes up from the peloton:

Trek-Segafredo now lead Movistar by 8’ 13" in the Team Award :D

However with the three mountain stages over the next three days it looks quite likely the climber specialists of Movistar can take back those yellow number bibs and 1st Team Award.

Then they would win the stage by a mile
Maybe riders should be disciplined much more often, like in football

Reminds me of the MP who was jailed for points swapping, he and his ex-wife could have shared a cell

Big blow to G in losing Luke Rowe over 'swervegate'.

^ Seems ASO has blocked this video on copyright issues!

Pity cos it went some way to showing earlier on the climb how the Rowe/Martin Jumbo might have 'kicked off' in modern parlance

On a flat stage maybe. Over the Alps - no way!

brilliant win by Quintana today!

As I thought might happen the big GC players mostly marked one another out, but Bernal and Quintana made time on everyone else, lending weight to the idea that Colombians have an edge at altitude. However it is increasingly becoming clear that rather than Ala simply blowing a gasket and falling away, he is more resilient than that and they are probably going to have to race him to beat him.

cheers

Excellent Colombian performance all round. To be honest, I'm surprised Alaphilippe is still in yellow. First it was the Pyrenees that were going to sort him out, then it was today's frolic. If he makes it to Paris I'll be surprised. I wouldn't care to bet on who'd be second, though.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

38°C out, 27°C in. Drinking lots of Badoit & doing SFA else. Oh, watched the stage. Viva Colombia!

He was saved today by the descent. He got back on on the descent and everyone knew he would so the attacks were rather sparse. Especially Pinot who is better than he was but still not as good downhill - why would he attack today instead of save his energy for a guts-or-glory attack on the summit finish?

I had 7 minutes left before the highlights. Managed to avoid hearing the result all day
