Road Worlds

Post by pjclinch »

I enjoyed the debut of the mixed-relay TTT. Great work from GB for a medal, shame it was a puncture for Longo Borghini that meant it wasn't the Italians, but she gets ride of the day for getting back on. Being married to a Cloggie I still get to celebrate the gold! I hope this will gain traction with more entries next year.

The sprawling mess of a 3 hour BBC show defeated my video recorder for some reason so I only got half of it and there don't seem to be any highlights scheduled. Rather irritating. The UCI really need to stop messing about and give the UK rights to either ITV or Quest who seem to make a better job of cycling shows than the BBC.

I think the mixed team time trial (MTTT) will gain traction if they do make it an Olympic event... but various comments on the Cycling Podcast www.TheCyclingPodcast.com said that having it a full week before the road races but only two days before the women's individual time trial (ITT) is a risk for it because few riders want to sacrifice their ITT or road race chances for it, which they might do by riding too hard or crashing (ITT) or by having to arrive almost a week before competitors who don't do the MTTT. Elia Viviani also said he thought the pro team time trial should still be there because some teams train for it anyway - but I don't know where they would fit that in the schedules now!

Don't try and watch any coverage on the UCI Youtube channel, they've geo-blocked people watching in the UK :( Had an email saying xxx event was live on their channel then clicked on the link only to be told this wasn't available in my country but there's a workround involving using a browser and VPN.

BBC also have some events on the red button. I watched the junior men's TT on the red button yesterday and the men's under 23 is currently showing live.

Now watching a rain sodden TT.
Shouldn't they be using mudguards?

From Orla Chennaoui on Twitter

From a degenerative back injury, to the world title, with ongoing hip and knee problems in between, there is so much to applaud in @chloedygert30’s win today - her record winning margin, the calibre of (mostly Dutch) opposition she beat, but mostly just never bloody giving up

Chloé Dygert Owen certainly delivered a monster ride. We knew she was special in a track context, particularly the IP (where Katie Archibald has readily conceded everyone else is an also-ran if CD-O is on form). I was particularly struck with the degree to which she was empty as soon as she was over the line, and had to be helped off her bike and unclipped by helpers.

Elsewhere, kudos to the U23 chaps for just getting through the new aquaplaning event!

Seems to work OK for me! Maybe it is because I have a Yorkshire ISP (Plusnet)? :D

[edited to add] There are also significant chunks of coverage available on BBC iplayer for 4 weeks.

It’s live on the BBC Red Button. Just watched the Junior road race, epic ride by the American team. Another wet one too.

I like the TTT in some ways but its flawed I reckon.
a)Better with single sex events for both. That would give more riders a chance to ride.
b) if mixed then let the team decide the ride order.
c) National not trade but cannot see why that couldn't exist as well.

another win for the US team this morning, in the junior women's race. Goodness me there were a lot of crashes though.

Morale could hardly be better in the US team right now; if this makes a difference (and I think it does) they are going to be the ones to watch in the remaining events.

cheers
