HSBC Ending British Cycling Sponsorship Early

Post by RickH »

I did wonder when I saw the recent article "HSBC signals mass job cuts as profits plunge" whether it would have consequences for their sponsorship deal with British Cycling.

Now we know - "HSBC to end multi-million pound sponsorship of British Cycling at end of 2020"!

I was wondering whether sponsorship deals had cancellation clauses in them and whether British Cycling are due any compensation for the deal ending early.

Yes, to the first bit, no to the second.

Depends on the deal obviously. Evidently, this one does.

If one of the parties invokes a break clause, then no compensation is due as it is within the contract terms. Compensation would only be due had this not been the case.

Shell sponsoring British Cycling

Post by Jdsk »

NB date.

"British Cycling has signed a long-term partnership that will bring wide-ranging support and investment from Shell UK as a new Official Partner. The agreement starts this month and runs to the end of 2030."
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/artic ... nouncement

I'd bet on that failing under the pressure of public opinion.

Just watching World Track Championships and notice that the Brits have a "Shell" emblem on the sleeves.
You'll never know if you don't try it.

... but the sponsorship continues...

We'll see.

I had to look her up, I'm ashamed to say.

So now I'm better informed. Wow. Thanks.
