I have a theory that there may be an exodus of riders from this Giro after stage 13 on Friday 16th, especially sprinters who aren’t doing so well, and quitting due to the cunning plan of avoidance of the final week horrors of five torturous mountain stages, three of which are back to back, would also avoid a hellishly hilly time trial on Saturday too.

Anyone abandoning after stage 13 would have four days preparation period before enlisting for a fresh start in the Vuelta which starts next week on Tuesday. Apparently it is going ahead! :|

13 Fri Oct 16 Cervia Monselice 192km Flat
14 Sat Oct 17 Conegliano Valdobbiadene 34.1km ITT
15 Sun Oct 18 Rivolto Piancavallo 185km Mountains
– Mon Oct 19 Rest day
16 Tues Oct 20 Udine Valdobbiadene 229km Mountains
17 Weds Oct 21 Bassano del Grappa Madonna di Campiglio 203km Mountains
18 Thurs Oct 22 Pinzolo Lago di Cancano 207km Mountains
19 Fri Oct 23 Morbegno Asti 251km Flat
21 Sat Oct 24 Alba Sestriere 198km Mountains
21 Sun Oct 25 Cernusco di Naviglio Milan 15.7km ITT

after today's miserable stage I wouldn't be at all surprised if several riders are 'not fit' tomorrow morning.

Ineos are having a good race, having had their GC plans derailed.

cheers

They would need UCI permission to start another race before one they've withdrawn from has finished. I think that's usually only granted when they withdrew due to injury.

Not seen the whole race yet but you could be mistaken in thinking you're somewhere in the British Isles about this time of year.
Complete with all the hedges and of course the quality of tarmac, or the lack of it.
Wiggo reckons it's not too hilly, Well I had to go and look but just over 100 foot the mile it's just like a leisurely ride in Devon :)

I wouldn't call 127 miles at 23 mph average speed a leisurely ride.
Will he, wont he, end to the race. ?

Hi,
I was talking of the terrain not necessarily the fitness and of course the speed they can obtain.
