I saw the wattage hit 660W,according to the little power bar on Eurosport, but on the climb they stated he averaged 540W!The commentators stated that Mr average cyclist could possibly hit 540W for a couple of seconds but he averaged that for almost 45mins.
I can't get anywhere near 500W even for a couple of seconds

Hi,
I know that Chris Boardman was looking at 400 to 420 W.
Wiggins put out for 440 watts.
These are average figures for one hour track, so what do you think the average was on the time trial?
I believe one guy once put out 500 W for 30 minutes sometime back.

Re: Giro d'Italia
I think it was Brian Smith who compared Ganna to Wiggins yesterday. He said something along the lines of "Wiggins averaged around 440W on his Olympic TT in 2012 and now we're seeing guys like Ganna averaging well over 500W".I took that to mean over the entire TT?
There's one more individual TT in the Giro,I shall pay more attention to the Watts!

Re: Giro d'Italia
What is the power bar on Eurosport showing though? Is it direct from the bike or a rough calculation based on gradient, speed and possibly weight of bike and rider, could a 25k bike be inflating the estimate by being more efficient?

AFAIK it's direct from the power meter on the bike?I assume, possibly wrong, that it's the same data the teams get from their riders?
The data is there for every rider not just Ganna on his 25k bike.I would think all the Ineos/Pinarellos will cost roughly the same anyway?
Ganna is a heavy rider so will need to push more Watts/kg to go as quick as a rider who is lighter so I'm not sure how much his bike would help. All the bikes have to be within specific parameters so i wouldn't think, other than cost, his Pinarello would have that much of an advantage over a Trek/Specialized/Colnago etc?
Re: Giro d'Italia
The same watts/kg isn't it? More watts as he's heavier. If the bike is slightly more efficient, slightly less drag, it will be helping him a little, more at higher speeds, less on climbs, unless it's significantly lighter than other riders' bikes. Does a heavy rider creating 6 w/kg climb faster than a lighter rider at 6 w/kg on the same bike, as they are also lifting the bike? This would be increased if the other, lighter riders are on heavier bikes.

All this talk of cyclist wattage expenditure will give the government ideas for the compulsory fitting of a smart meter to every bicycle!

Hi,
You can do 25 miles in a year on 1 m² of wheat.
But one square metre solar panel will power you to 20,000 miles on an electric bike.
I will try and find the link later.

He didn’t. He had a two second gap at the finish line.
