Required affiliations

Post by ignatzcatz »

After two new hips and a bit of work on the back, I've been riding club 10's and training fairly hard to the extent that I hope to race again in 2014. This will be LVRC and Surrey League road races plus a few 25's and 50's. My question is do I really need to belong to a local club or can I enter on the strength of CTC membership. I am unsure whether or not the CTC might hold necessary affiliations. Obviously to obtain my racing licence I shall need British Cycling membership.

Certainly for riding open time trials you need to be a member of a CTT affiliated club. For BC road races, you can compete as a private member of BC. The same may be true of LVRC, but I'm not sure.

For timetrials - CTC nationally does not carry affiliation to the CTT, so you cannot timetrial in the name of CTC. However, some member groups do carry CTT affiliation (like any other big club it is the local groups that carry affiliations where needed) so if you are a CTC member of one of those groups then you may ride timetrials. See http://www.ctt.org.uk/Clubs/tabid/118/Default.aspx where you will find some CTC groups listed.
