hour record.

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

hour record.

Post by cycleruk »

I know there is mention in another post of the hour record attempt by Jens Voigt and he has set the new record at 51,115 km.
That is by my calculation = 31.76 mph average.
Matt Bottril broke the British 25 miles TT record with a time of 45:43 minutes which, again by my reckoning = 33 mph average.
So if Bottril was to go for the hour what would be the outcome.
Would he be able to keep 33mph up for the hour.
His 25 record was done outside on the open road so would be at the vagaries of the weather, road surface and traffic compared with the "hour" done on an indoor track.
You'll never know if you don't try it.

The R25/3L is a 'legal' TT course but does have a long downhill section (actually quite scary when on tribars when there's a side wind and with some clunky expansion joints) but traffic is actually quite light on this course which is mainly concrete road. On the flip side, the general opinion was that conditions on 07/09/14 were good but not quite perfect.

I'd love to see Matt Bottril have a crack at this version of the hour record and reckon he'd have a good chance.

Very unfortunate for Alex Dowsett to have broken his collarbone during the build up to a record attempt.
I should coco.

The team have not yet cancelled his attempt, though I guess that is the likely outcome. They are going to evaluate after his surgery.

Poor Alex :(

Mens record is now 52.8km, only 4 km short of being numerically comparable with the IHPVA mens record - in miles.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Woohoo.

Although as Alex said - if wig go is doing 20 minute blocks of 55kmh at the moment he's going to set a huge record.
