hour record.

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

Hi,
By Wiggo's own admission he has never won a one day race :?:
He is good at TT's but how is he on the day over 60 mins :?:
I fear that a disappointment here will play heavy for 2016 as he says I will attempt once..................

The longer road TTs tend to come in at around an hour... One of the 2012 TdF TTs was 53 km, for example. Of course that's up and down a bit and not on on a track, but Wiggins comes from track and has Olympic Gold medals from there to demonstrate his pedigree. While Tony Martin is a superlative road TTer he has much less obvious top flight track experience than Wiggins.

That's not to say it's in the bag, but if it goes according to the numbers he stands a very good chance of getting it, and keeping it for a bit longer than anyone else in the current new-rules crop.

Hi,

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/lat ... ord-151734

“I definitely don’t agree [with Cancellara],” he told Cycling Weekly. “There can’t be enough attention on the Hour Record. I think Cancellara should try it when Wiggins and I have done it and we’ll see then how it goes.”

The German time trial specialist says his his own attempt is in the pipeline, after compatriot Jens Voigt became the first rider to set the new ‘unified record’ when he rode just prior to he retirement in September last year.

However, Martin’s record will almost certainly come after Bradley Wiggins’ attempt, which is confirmed to be happening in London in June."

Hi,
Dowsett
Seemed disappointed interviewed at Criterium du Daulphine at loosing hour, he must have known that the guns were lining up.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/j ... our-record
Wiggins hopes that he has raised the bar enough to deter others, and it is likely that 7 June 2015 will become a high-water mark concluding, for a while at least, the spate of nine attempts on the Hour in the last seven months that has followed a change in the rules to permit the use of aerodynamic aids within current rules. It has been a window of opportunity that has led to the record being broken four times and it has now been slammed shut. “I think I’ve put down a big marker and people will think twice,” he said.

Well we will all go home then shan't we...............................

Alex Dowsett was always going to get beaten by Wiggins. He's not in the same class. There's a reason Dowsett rode first!

I don't think Wiggins has put the record "on the shelf" with that attempt though.

Not taking away from his 54.526km as it's a huge improvement on Alex Dowsett's mark. He was hampered slightly by the air pressure so I think anyone else seriously attempting to break Wiggo's record will probably go to altitude for maximum advantage. I believe Tony Martin could do it (certainly got the engine but lacks the track experience) and Dowsett again possibly, especially if he continues to improve over the next couple of years.

Dorset was also aiming at the old record, he's got a decade of career left to try again, aiming at the new record...
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Hi,
And Dowsett is going to give it another go.......bit like pole vaulting don't go mad just nudge the record a bit at a time :)
Sorry Mail again :)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/others ... ecord.html

"Dowsett added that he would try and claim the record back: ‘I’d like to go back and see what I’m capable of, but whether that’s next year or in 8 years, I don’t know."

"The second complaint concerned the fact that Wiggins was coached by Heiko Salzwedel and Sutton, who both work for the national governing body, rather than by his own team – as Collins tweeted on Sunday evening: ‘Congrats @BritishCycling on your #hourrecord’.

A spokesman for British Cycling responded: ‘Sir Bradley Wiggins was helped by members of the Great Britain Cycling Team coaching staff with whom he is working in his bid to earn a place in the team pursuit squad for Rio 2016."

Dowsett to try and reclaim it in early 2017, in Manchester.
