We Are Cycling UK

Post by mullinsm »

You may be cycling, but I'm still touring. Anyone know of a club for cycle tourists by any chance?

... there's an embryonic initiative gathering pace .... www.touringcyclistclub.org.uk

We are expecting to have the initial "offering" in marketing parlance in the next 4-6 weeks

Here's the technical bit (or a good guess) - the forum works with a "library of images" that are assembled to display with a template that has all the forum stuff - my guess is that for simplicity the image file that is "called" has been changed to the CUK logo BUT the "filename" hasn't been changed from CTClogo - that would save some work digging about in the code that creates the site ... it still "asks" for the CTC logo .. but is presented with a different image for the CUK logo (and the forum name in the text header is rather easier to change in the forum software).

Images on the web have "alternate text" (for people with visual problems who use screen readers) and "titles" (the text that appears in a tooltip when you hover over the image). I just need to change those, as well as the image itself. For anyone interested in the technicalities, mouse-right-click on this page and use the "View page source" or similar option in the popup menu that appears. That will show you the HTML for the page, which gets turned into the page you look at by your browser.

Expect many more little places where the legacy of CTC will live on for while yet!

For we Mac users, Right Click is usually ControlClick.

If I do this, I get a menu, but there's no option for "View Page Source"

On Safari on the Mac, you need to enable the Develop menu before you can do that, which you do via a little tickbox in Preferences->Advanced. Upon which all sorts of web geekery is suddenly open to you...

Clicking on "Inspect Element" I do indeed see all sorts of stuff.
I wish I hadn't bothered.
