Nope, I would argue quite stronger that bad diets cause T2D and exercise hardly matters. Steven Redgrave has it, so how do you think he got it ? Just a fluke ? Or could it be all those carb and sugar laden foods he was eating whilst at the top could possibly have had some impact ?

You in our previous discussions refuse to accept that eating sugar may cause a sugar disease ? T2D is caused by too much sugar NOT too little insulin. However guess you believe you can not fix T2 ?

I neither said nor implied anything of that, except what you directly quoted.

I would agree that the main cause of T2 is too much sugar intake (where did I say otherwise?), but I have known at least one person who ate a healthy diet to get T2.

I also never said that you can not fix it. I know several people who have sorted themselves out entirely with diet and exercise changes, but *all* of the information I've ever seen about T2 states that exercise is an important part of recovery. The person I know who got it despite a healthy diet recovered almost entirely as a result of exercise. So I don't think that it is reasonable to say that exercise hardly matters.

see Vorpal here comes the key question for you, what is a healthy diet ??

Is it the normal recommended 60/20/20 Carbs/fat/protein ?

Because I would say it is those diets causing ALL the problems ....

Look here at my bloods taken in November, pretty damn perfect and the very imprint Trig/HDL ratio is massively low at 0.2

apparently according to some I eat awful diets !

of course exercise will help prevention for a number of reasons but say you cycled for two hours then had an energy drink during it I would argue all the real benefits are gone. Surely my way of doing fasted rides over 4-5 hours with just electrolytes in drinks (no carbs at all) is the best way ?

My friend who had the T2 diagnosis ate a lots of salads and omelettes and things. I don't know the balance of carbs/fats/proteins. His specialist seemed to think most of his problem was lack of exercise; he got almost none before he had his diagnosis. He was prescribed an exercise program, and by the time he had worked his way up to playing football with a local side, he didn't need anything other than the occasional check of his blood sugar.

thats great and if exercise, wonderful, and it proves unlike some claim you do not need insulin to cure T2D ! Cycling is a magnificent way as it really builds the aerobic system and thus the metabolism !

I work on a computer and tend to sit in front of it for hours a day..

This led to knee pain and I wonder if cycling may help?

Or otherwise may it have any kind of negative effect on the knees if doing it about 3-4 times a week with about 2 hours rides each time?

Not if the wind's blowing the wrong way. Hills have tops and other sides. 50 miles into the wind with not even a hedge in sight (OK exaggeration) will get you plenty of exercise.

Having cycled for miles and miles fully loaded across the fens last year I can vouch for this.

:D My first experience of a long ride (as a teenager) was 84 miles across the Cheshire plain and into the Welsh valleys, against the wind. It took us 12 hours. At one point some of us were trying to tow one of our number using a scarf tied to his bars (we didn't know then that it's easier to push with a hand in the back).

Depends what is the cause of your knee pain, but in my experience cycling seems to strengthen muscles around the knees. However you will need the bike set up correctly especially regarding saddle height otherwise you may make matters worse. Sit on the saddle and put your heel on the pedal at its furthest point so your leg is straight but relaxed. This will be close to the position where your saddle height should be.

It also depends how much you have been cycling. If you're not used to it 2 hours might be a long time. Cycling won't be a quick fix, but regularly cycling ought to improve matters, but it's not a guarantee.

Why so adamant your way is the right way, cholesterol comes from the liver and is.............can only be...........with some people.....reduced by...........14.5 %.........by what you eat..................

Why do TDF riders eat while doing a 4 hour race..............................

why are you worries about cholesterol ? the biggest myth out ?

And I am 100% convinced by it, did the London - Wales - London Audax this weeked, riding time 17 hours and yes ate some crap during it but not a lot and felt great ....

As for pro's they need to, because well they are pros ....
