change of body shape
change of body shape
I was 11stone,20yrs ago whilst a runner and training every day.Subsequently,a move to cycling and more physical work brought about a more muscular upper body and cycling legs along with 13st bodyweight.Ok,I,m retired now and don,t need the torso muscle.Has anybody actually changed bodyshape ,particularly in middle age,to accomodate a new sport(rather than just losing fat to do any sport at all).Is this clear or not, unsure.

Valid question.Pre 2000,a b&b owner, post 2000 plumber, tiler, handyman, post 2010 retired but did a lot of wooding by hand i.e. no power tools and this required much upper body work, sourcing mainly oak and beech.Post 2017,wooding stopped.Plenty of folk "bulk up" for a sport but how do you bulk down whilst still taking part.Anybody out there done this or am I overthinking the whole thing."incremental losses" perhaps?
Re: change of body shape
you are over thinking, eat a healthy diet with the right amount of calories, and your body shape will change to fit. your body removes muscle it doesn't need overtime, bone density as well. hence the problems of exercising in space(Not a problem on earth but is a great example) .

Yoga, pliates, Tai Chi, or martial arts are all exercises that would help you to maintain muscle tone & flexibility without leading to unneeded bulk.

I though the ideal body shape for a middle aged cyclist was that of a Mr Man

What do you do when you are exchanging body fat for muscle mass and though riding every day actually loose no weight.

Someone changed his body shape, then won the Tour de France seven times
