No we do not, the result is overwhelming, the result I planned, organised, expected*, I am still surprised we the remainers did not win by such a margin

Just updated my winter porridge recipe
Teaspoonful of groats, plenty of water, three minutes in the microwave, *leave to cool*, three more minutes in the microwave, add coarse oats, leave overnight, heat, add salt, consume
Preparation time 12 hours
The groats break down better if they are heated twice

Marmite.
I'm one of those people who can take it or leave it, but not passionate one way or another.
Marmite isn't a "marmite" thing with me.
It's fine with a little bit of it on toast with beanz or eggs, or even to season and richen a stew or casserole, but I wouldn't rely or desire it.

On the same-ish subject, and a hobby-horse of mine, is that "love and hate" may be opposites, but no-one "loves" Marmite. They like it.
Some folk dislike it, not "hate" it. Hate is a horrible word and should be used with caution.
I would like one of the Foska Marmite cycling shirts, but the rear side is 'Hate Jams'.
It puts me off, using the word "Hate".

What exactly are groats? A specific grain/seed, or one of a number? (Sorry if this is answered somewhere above). I don't need an exhaustive description such as I can find by googling, just simply an idea of what to ask for - and where to buy it.
Sounds like a useful addition to give the porridge a bit of body and texture.

Oat groats are hulled grain available in various versions, there is a mill producing them near me, makes muesli too, one can smell the malt or honey or chocolate for miles around
You might find them in the cereals section in the food store, or baking ingredients or soup ingredients
Many other cereal products are available, PLF, porridge-like food is consumed in many countries

I'll ask around (doubt that Sainsburys, Safeway etc will sell them!), so maybe next time I come across a friendly miller? Or catch a whiff of those lovely smells you describe as I'm out on the bike . . .

Wholefood stores have interesting grain products, one may experiment but porridge is best kept simple, just oats & groats, ticks all the boxes, simple, cheap, easy, healthy, tasty as noted already

Rolled oats of the large and muscular variety, brought slowly to near-boil in skimmed milk, with a large handful of dried berries chucked in. Left to cool and also to form the one-lump, which falls out of the pan as such and into the dish, where one carves off the large spoonful for shovelling into the hungry maw a half hour before heading out to batter the club-mates at the climbs and for the village signs, more or less jet-propelled by the lumpen-oat.
At the café, one may reinforce the breakfast porridge with a flapjack, as long as they haven't gone mad with the sugar when making it (many do). A scone or a toasted teacake is just not enough! Wholemeal toast with the bean and egg can work, especially at the jet-propulsion aspects, which may also keep others off one's wheel as the next village sign hoves into view.
