Mind, porridge is great in winter too
Can I just say that you should correct the statement a bit?

You find - and other people do too - find it is especially good in summer, as you and other people find that it goes down easily.
You make it fresh mind, and you find it's best not to leave it standing overnight in hot weather as it might go mouldy.
You and other people find it great in winter too.

I find it horrible - always.
So it's not good in summer, winter, or left standing overnight. You do, but not me.

Porridge just keeps better and better, you should try it (blindfolded?)
What I mean is maybe, porridge is a winter food (may not be on a hotel menu in summer) but I have it in summer too

You are welcome to try to convince me that it is horrid, please %)

Anybody here prefer porridge in winter but not in summer?

Maybe porridge should be renamed and marketed as being more glamourous

I'm finding that milled oats at 10%w/v in water makes a great food drink. Useful for me as eating on the bike is difficult due to breathing difficulties with a long ago broken nose.

It’s on the summer menu at my regular hotels, also in First Class on the East Coast line.

There is a great story somewhere on these fora
A guest at a fancy B&B chose porridge for breakfast, it was tasty, after eating it he waited for the rest of the breakfast but there was none and the warder offered nothing more :(

I've heard similar tales.

usually if they have porridge out with the cereals you get both. I always order the fry up then go to peruse the sideboard

I thought I recognised that story, it was mine! :D

As this thread has been resurrected, just a small pointer towards the Bristol Porridge Project, which is a cafe hidden away in Bristol's city centre, on a small side street that hardly anyone goes down except a few cyclists (Trenchard Street). I've only stopped there one, bit it does a range of porridges to suit anyone's taste. How it survives there I don't know, it must depend on a lot of commuting breakfasts being consumed.

The mark-up on porridge is very good, oats are very cheap
Not to forget economies of scale

In summer one sweats a lot, I always add salt in the hot weather
Just added some now without thinking, is that right?
I fear porridge tastes better with salt

Most diets contain more than enough salt if an individual is eating the average 'modern' diet, which includes a proportion of processed food.

Because the cheapest and most effective flavour enhancer.

Winter porridge
Tablespoonful of groats, plenty of water, 3 minutes in the microwave oven
Allow to cool, add coarse oats, microwave again, leave overnight and heat again

Preparation time 10 hours

Plus One!

Love porridge don't eat it enough.

I don't microwave it (I hate the bloody things) and put a teaspoon of golden syrup in I normally make it with milk and sometimes add a scoop of protien powder to it.

Hi all, 3 - 4 times per week. Add one nice spoonful of Rhubarb & Ginger Jam.
At hotels I have porridge followed by scrambled eggs. TTFN MM
