Am eating a bowl now. 50-50 milk/water. Sultanas. Maple syrup.

Porridge was required eating during my childhood. My father would make it overnight in the small oven of the Rayburn. When he took it out he would add a vast quantity of sugar. I ended up being unable to face it.
These days I can manage it when served with salt and a bowl of cream
But I prefer my oat ration raw with chopped fruit, seeds and nuts and served with semi skimmed and natural yoghurt.
Talking about it has inclined me to pencil in microwave scrambled eggs and coffee for tomorrow :D

Upgraded to majoring on groats
Microwave them with lots of water, let them cool, microwave them again, add coarse oats, leave overnight, microwave again in the morning

What happens if one forgets to prepare the oats the evening before?

My current batch of Mornflake oats have proved to be of the chewy, bitty, variety and don't soften up as well as previous batches. I blitz the whole packet in a blender, for a short time, not too long or you end up with dust. They then cook fine. Current method is oats, 50/50 water and full cream milk, teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. I cook it in the microwave in a mug the evening before then warm it up for breakfast with a teaspoon of honey. :)

Why a vote deadline?, porridge is doing time, an ongoing lifetime experience!

Is is possible to re-open the vote?

The results only reflect the historical out of date span up to when the voting time expired, but porridge consumption goes on.

Let re-open the bowels of democracy, and force some movement.

Some folk may of changed their porridge eating habits and would like to re-place their vote.

New porridge munchkins come onto this thread too, and it would be good to include their votes :D

The bowels of democracy are at our service

Not sure if by groats you mean the ground oatmeal that constitutes real porridge imvho?
I lightly toast a mix of medium and coarse meal and then add 3-4 × vol of water and bring to the boil.
Leave overnight in the saucepan.
Reheat in the morning with salt. Add cream&sugar depending on how decadent I'm feeling.
If i do it in the morning i add a bit of extra water and simmer for approx 20 mins. It works, but obv more energy inefficient. I also read that some nutritionally beneficial transformative process occurs during the overnight resting.

When I'm on an early shift, backpacking or touring, I premix rolled oats, powdered milk, salt and sugar and then add boiling water and leave for 10 mins. Needs must.

Just started a trial run with Flahavan's. Very nice and very yummy :D

A little bit dearer than Scots or Quakers but quality rarely comes cheap.

May have to stock up with a dozen bags before we fall over the Brexit cliff...

Been using this for a couple of years. The best by far, if somewhat more expensive.

I'm a fan of Flahavan's too - and even better - I get to go round Waitrose, pretending to be middle-class!
