SPINNING ..... FUN OR HELL ......

Post by landsurfer »

Went to my first spinning class last night, 20 people in the class, i was the only male.
It was supposed to be a 45 minute "spin" class but due to a mix up in instructors it was a 45 minute "Sprint / Power" class.
Disco lighting, loud techno music, fans and the super fit gym bunny instructor shouting instructions.
"Pyramid Peaks" .. "Sprint Climbs" ..... it was hard ........ but so much fun !!! :D
I could never motivate myself to the level of exertion sat on my turbo in the shed as i achieved in that class.
Signed up for next weeks class already.
Don't knock it until you try it ..
No. 1 tip .... take your SPD road shoes to wear, all the bikes have cleats on the back of the pedals.

Hell is other peoples music, you should create a poll, with "don't know" option :?

I understand how your shed doesn't compare to that level of exertion.

The irony of people driving to and paying for the 'pleasure' of spin classes never ceases to amaze me.
Convention? what's that then?

Not irony, tragedy

People doing a 600 km audax drive 100 km to the start
I would just do an 800 km audax

I watched spinning classes at the Scottish bike show 3-4 yrs ago. It looked like a lot of fun for a spectator anyway.
As I flatly refuse to use a turbo I did check out where my nearest spinning classes are. A 40ml drive on winters nights put an end to that idea. If there had been one within ten miles then it could have been game on.

My local Sports centre is 4 miles away and I cycled to the session last night.

My work has spinning classes on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. I go occasionally. I find them boring, but somewhat less so than the turbo in the cellar. I only do either when I can't get enough exercise by other means, preferably out of doors. I've been twice this winter. Once when one of the kids was sick for a few days and I couldn't easily cycle or take the time to go skiing. The other time was a week that was just extremely busy with various things; music rehearsals, veterinary appointments, orthodontist appointment, etc.

If I had to pay to do it, or go to private membership gym, or something, I don't think I would do it.

I've been doing a few Watt Bike sessions, not so much of the disco lights and music but a similar level of exertion. Fun isn't the word I'd use but I'm already feeling the benefit.
BTW - I cycle to the gym, which just happens to also be the velodrome, so there's usually something worth watching as I cool down, win, win, win.

Not sure dismantling the bikes at the local leisure centre for a 45 minute session would go down too well ? But feel free to try ... :)
