Sore Heel when riding again after 2 months off the bike

Post by SamWarrenCycling »

Hi all,

I used to cycle a fair bit. Had a chunk of time off due to work, and when I jumped back on and hit a sizeable (400 miles over 5 days) tour, I developed really bad pains in the heel of my right foot as well as swelling on the inside of the patella. My bike size hadn't changed, but I think maybe the angle of my cleats had? Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers,
Sam

Did you move the cleats? If not how did they move?

I think a more likely cause of the knee issue is you actually twisting (subconsciuosly) your leg when pedalling. This could easily cause both your problems.

400 miles in five days is a lot of distance especially if you went straight in from a 2 month lay off - it could simply be your body complaining at this abuse.
Convention? what's that then?

Hi,
Age is very important.
If you were 23 you might well hack it off the bike for two months.
