Anyhow that's not important. What is important is the way anything negative involving a sportsman and cyclist especially in their private life gets reported as a cycling issue. Why on earth should the BC be required to comment. It's a private matter. Besides AFAIK he's not done anything in the BC elite / team side since the noughties.

Also it's not very important news. How many other people have been involved in violence on the domestic setting? How many times does the telegraph report on those? This guy is now just a member of the general public with no significance or celebrity status since retiring if not before then. The day the telegraph reports on all cases of domestic abuse / violence hitting the court system is the day I'll accept this article.

One more thing, is brain damage not worthy of some understanding? A mate had brain damage from a cycling accident. Personally we were all glad he survived and secondly had a lot of patience for the issues he damage caused.

One final thing. If you are aware that alcohol and your brain damage causes explosive aggression then why on earth do you go to a brewery quarter and drink? Surely you accept your new situation and give up all alcohol? Treat it like one drop is poison to you and leave it alone. That I don't understand. You can socialise with drinkers without drinking yourself. Certainly these days when drink driving means people are increasingly refraining due to driving reasons. It's socially acceptable to not drink these days.

Ive actually known Jonny Bellis since he was a young lad, though I've not seen much of him in recent years. He's the same age as my son and they raced against each other from the age of 10. He's originally from the Isle of Man and was part of the talented group of cyclists that emerged in the mid-noughties, including Mark Cavendish, Peter Kennuagh, Ben Swift, Ian Stannard, Adam Blythe, Geraint Thomas.

Jon was good enough to get on the Olympic Development Programme (ODP) and went on to be one if the first few to get onto the U23 Academy, based in Italy. He had a career as a pro cyclist ahead of him, but was involved in a scooter accident and sustained a head injury. He was never the same rider again, after the injury, and still tried to make it in pro cycling, but eventually had to accept that it wasn't going to happen. He retired as a rider in 2015, and was managing the Drops Women's cycling team, but following his conviction, he has been suspended from that role.

A sad end to what was once a promising career in cycling.
