Ice pack alternative

I have always had an issue using ice packs on injuries as I find them too cold to bear for more than a minute or so.
I have come up with an alternative: rice. Put a loose plastic bag full of 1kg dried, uncooked rice in the freezer. It's not as cold on the wound but stays a useable temperature for at least 1/2 hour and can be shaped around the affected area without slumping to the bottom of the bag so it provides even relief.

Gel based Aloe Vera. I've used it in everything from cuts to hard knocks off the tarmac. Works a treat.

It's conventional and often convenient to use frozen vegetables, with peas probably being most common.
eg:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sprains-and-strains/NB those timings to avoid damage from the cold.
But there isn't much evidence around:

PS: Amazingly I've twice had to point out that you weren't supposed to take them out of the packet!
