Nice bit of settled weather on the way so that's handy timing!. Enjoy and go steady.

Thanks again people for your good wishes and gentle advice.

Yesterday I did 29 miles. I do, as some will know, have a battery and used it more than I usually do. But I got out and kept pedalling.

I'm aiming for the Northumberland 250 next Spring.

Well done John -- it's still great to be out and pedaling even with a little assistance.

I took my time. Several longish stops: morning coffee, lunch and time just to stand and stare.

As WH Davies wrote:

"What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass."

WH understood life.

When I was young an aged friend of mine once told me " by the time you learn how to live it's too late "

He had a been a farmer all his life and worked so hard to make ends meet he'd neglected his own happiness and discovered it late in life when he met and married a good woman. He told me to learn how to live. I'm glad I respected him and changed my work life balance. I never forgot his words.
