That BBC piece is typical of the unevidenced generalised pseudoscientific waffle that's far too common in discussions of nutrition. And it's wrong about how caffeine acts in humans.

I prefer to cycle on a bike
Isn't it part of the Keto diet? I read a book by Tom Watson, who it seemed to work well for, but I haven't heard of it being used outside that diet.

I love Coffee but adding all that to it doesn't appeal to me at all.

Yes. Part of low carb/keto diet. If adapted to this you use fat as your source of fuel. It means you have available stores of thousands of calories as opposed to the 2000 or so if you fuel on carbs.
"The art and science of low carb' living" and "The Art and science of Low carb performance" by Volek & Phinney will tell you all about it.
The science is sound.I've used it for weight loss but wouldn't like to continue it for ever. Tom Watson's book is with reading though.

Yes Keto here .. use bullet proof coffee with a good dab of mct oil on just about all my rides. On OMAD so on long day rides the coffee helps give me a boost if felling a bit drained at any point
I make 500ml and keep in a sigg thermos bottle... good for most of the day

There is probably some anecdotal evidence on this,(I'm not aware of any large scale trials) but I'm put in mind of the old Belgian "go-fast" of caffeine and brandy ( sometimes supplemented with "vitamins" of the riders choosing).
I think that morphed into the infamous "Belgian pot".
My only experience of high caffeine is consuming one of those drinks in cans (red bull?) which seemed to give me a boost at towards the end of a long audax. I twice made the mistake of pouring it into a drinking bottle ( couldn't get rid of the odour which persuaded me that perhaps I should avoid it)

Bullet proof coffee is used mainly by those following a Keto life style. We use it not for the caffine but as a way to get fat into the system without eating a large meal. My coffee is taken when out riding 30 mile plus rides, I dont eat before riding and use no gels or protein bars when cycling.
My coffee is always drip coffee (about 450ml with 15g salted butter 20g heavy cream and normaly about 2 tblsp MCT oil (only from coconut)
I find this works great for me while out, when my riding partners usually stop for a cake and tea I just have a good swigg of BPC... keeps it social too..
My friends do find it hard to understand why I dont have snacks while out..
On a plus side I had been Type2 diabetic for over 14 years and have been running with keto lifestyle for the last about 14 months. I am no longer type 2 and have also reduced my cholesterol back to what the doctors regard as normal, my blood pressure has never been as good as now.
So for me the low carb (keto) is working, and I do understand maybe it won't work for everyone.

Not sure how butter and cream lowers cholesterol - OTOH I've never had to worry about it- my level is around 3.4.

I know of it because of the claims made by Tom Watson and of the Keto diet because a friend uses it but not in a sustained way so I couldn’t and wouldn’t make any claims regarding benefits.
The BBC piece is pretty woolly, lots of maybes and more evidence needed stuff. I take from that, some people claim to have some kind of benefit from it but others don’t. It might be good for you or it might not. Doesn’t inspire me to try it!
Doesn’t sound particularly pleasant either, I must admit!
