Hi
I have been road cycling for nearly 4 years, and 3 of those years I have used Shimano RS500 SPD-SL ROAD CYCLING PEDALS.
6 years ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer, which inspired to keep fit and healthy and ultimately into road cycling. 18 months ago my cancer went to my brain which resulted in me having a seizure in my right leg. I lost some mobility in the bottom half of my leg, but I able to slip my foot on and off the pedal.
Recently I suffered some more right leg seizures and my right leg has got worse, and I find difficult to get my right shoe back on the pedal it takes me about 2-3 minutes.
Well anyway I don’t want to give up cycling, so can anyone recommend any type of pedal that will keep my right foot safely in place, and is a better to guide my shoe back on the pedal.
Mike
What pedals to use due to brain injury
Re: What pedals to use due to brain injury
Could you get your foot in and out of a toe clip with loose straps?
If not how about a plastic shovel?

Have to admit to having been a roadie, but found SPD's were too dangerous with a brain injury (Nb. Being attached to the bike when in it goes over, causes damage). But found flat pedals were ok, it being overall fitness which counts
Re: What pedals to use due to brain injury
I used to use lightweight flat MTB pedals when riding, might be an option for your consideration.
Now into 'Boots & Scoots'.
Re: What pedals to use due to brain injury
I would suggest flat pedals used with soft rubber soled shoes. For example, MKS Sylvan pedals have small metal teeth that will grip your shoes but are less likely to bite into your legs, in the event of a slip, than MTB shoes with fierce spikes in them. 5 10 do a range of shoes that stick well to flat pedals and are often recommended by MTBers on the STW forum. That is what I use on two of my bikes and find that my feet don't slip about while riding but are they easy to shift when I stop, so they are ideal for touring and U3A jaunts.

But I have no personal experience with these.
