Better than gels?

I could not resist these refuelling choices from a triathlon event.

I certainly prefer real food.

It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Love it!

(Is that banana malt loaf in the first pic? Hmmm, lovely stuff ...
And are they stuck on with their own sugars?)

If it's still on Amazon Prime, there's a fantastic series by one of the TdF team chefs who takes you through what they eat, and crucially why.

She only gives the sprinters gels as the glucose arrives and departs the blood stream at roughly the same rate and isn't good for the digestion. Most of the riders get cakes, sandwiches and flapjack like things.
A novice learning...
