I can assure anyone reading this, that my side-effects came after years and years of no side-effects at all. They came on slowly and steadily.

As soon as I stopped, within a fortnight maximum, they had all gone.

I tried again, and within a week, they were all back again.
I stopped again, and they all went.
I tried a lower dose, and they came back again.
I stopped, and they all went.

That's as much evidence as I need.

Did you report them to Yellow Card, so your evidence might help others and possibly one day help give the likes of John100 a better overview?

My comments were not aimed at any one individual. Just trying to balance the argument! I would never pretend any drug is perfect.

You implicitly accused previous posters in general of "negativity and misinformation" - of course we're flaming negative! Crippling pain does make one pretty negative about what caused it! But misinformation? That's a bit odd.

However, I would agree that the evidence is poor, but I feel that's because there's nothing like the funding going in to collect evidence that statins don't work, compared to what was expended on trying to show that toxic fungus distillates and related synthetic compounds do work. I don't believe there's a Big Pharma conspiracy, but I feel we must acknowledge that public health gets a fraction of the funding of drug development.

No.
All the side effects are there on the leaflet for everyone to read. I eventually suffered from almost all of the Common Side Effects, plus muscle aches. The headaches were debilitating and painful.

Seems like it's all well known and documented.

Documented as occurring to between 1 in 10 for some side effects up to 1 in 1000 for others. If some people are suffering side-effects but not generating yellow cards, those may well be underestimates.

Saw a patient today who has been on statins for twelve years. Comparing his coronaries then and now the difference is simply stunning.

Are you serious? Have you seen the long list of side-effects which come with the tablets?

Detailing ones experiences concerning Statins should not be considered "misinformation" but an attempt to educate the users of the drug.

Could be.

My specialist was well aware of the side effects and how some people (like me) can't cope with statins, and he was very knowledgable with respect to alternative treatments.

This two statements are funny !!

so for your last one, where is your proof of that ? Even studies by pro statin groups and companies have shown little real improvement for taking them that can not be done by other methods which means not buying drugs.

But there are side effects and side effects. Some have very obvious symptoms and some less so. Some may be imagined. As I've posted before on this thread or another, I've had various symptoms of pregnancy. Give me the list and I've soon got the symptoms. I've been on statins now since 2004. The side effects wore off as soon as I stopped reading up about them. Have they and other medication "worked?" Who knows? Am I more relaxed? Definitely. Is that the Atenolol or have I just stopped worrying about side effects? Again, who knows?

Coronary angiogram, remarkable differences. The previous plaques had virtually gone, without the statins they probably would indeed now be calcified.

Around 1% of adverse reactions seen by GPs are reported up. This low rate suits everyone.

You know they are rewarded for prescribing the drugs?
