Been feeling crap as of late
Resigned to more meds after weaning myself of several over a few years.
Ache all the time and cycling is not good.
Atorvastatin 10 mg ( I had it my mind that they wanted to up the dose) I used to be on Rosuvastatin and seemed OK but after missing for two weeks because the chemist did not have any felt a new man again
Rang the docs and he said stop taking for two weeks, all I need is another energy / performance sapper
Fortunately the BP med seems to have some mild performance enhancement

GP said that rosuvastatin can be taken at a lower dose..............mmmmm, don't relish them things again or any additional med but what can I do with a restricted artery.

Have a stent put in.

Any idea at the success rate..........after a few years or so, from what I gather 1:20 fail within 4 years?
The surgeon says he would not do it till it gets to a limb threatening situation.
Also with a stent the same meds need to be taken.

No idea I'm not a medic but I do know someone with similar problems to you who has had 9 stents. At 67 he's still working as a builder so they must be doing some good.

Absolutely no sign of side effects at all, and the docs have signed me off completely.

So people don't have to go back through this thread, I'm on 140mg of Repatha evolocumab.
This a spent one. I keep the spent ones in a sharps box which is collected when full. New ones are kept in the fridge.

The same here, no side effects except in the wallet. I’m statin intolerant, with two stents and a relatively rare lipid condition (sitosterolemia). After the diagnosis (an accident, from a generic genetic test) and proper treatment, my biking has been like it was thirty years ago!

There’s new non-statin stuff in the pipeline, both injectable (inclisiran, cheaper to manufacture and twice a year will be enough), and oral (bempedoic acid).

Just got off the phone to the doctors, he said that the fact that I'm feeling better after being off Lipitor (atorvastatin) For for five weeks this is not conclusive to me feeling better.
So I'm back on the bloody things, if the pains come back then I know that's it, It felt like when I getup in the morning feeling like I was 93.

He suggested that there Are non statin Anti cholesterol Medication but they are expensive.

I will see how I get on ha ha.

Yep, alternatives are expensive like the injections and trial stuff mentioned above, or less effective old ones like bile acid sequestrants and absorption inhibitors, or special case ones like fibrates for people with high triglycerides.

Do everything you can with diet and exercise IMO. There are no good drugs for this and I think statin side effects are very underreported.

Been mentioned before about diet.
IIRC only some can reduce cholesterol by up to 14.5%.
But you need testing for bad cholesterol.
So if you are diagnosed with slightly high or high like say Mick F then diet will probably not reduce cholesterol?

Any way as I have a problem with circulation in my leg, so meds have to be belt and braces.
Exercise is the best for my leg problem and also is for my BP too.

If I were on a 100% lettuce diet, I'd still have sky high cholesterol.
My body cannot process the stuff that my body - and everybody else's body - produces.

Normally, your liver does the job, but mine has a genetic defect.

Statins reduce the cholesterol produced naturally by the body. My injections don't do that, but they remove the genetic issue of my genetically defective liver to make it like a normal liver.

I was on statins for ten years and slowly I became stiff and old and felt I was in my 90s. I also had blinding and horrible headaches.
I stopped the statins, and within a week, I felt like a spring chicken again. Went back on them, and within a few days, I was in my 90s again and my headaches returned.

I stopped them from then on.
Stuff your statins where the sun don't shine!

Oh, I thought you were on a PCSK9 inhibitor, which lowers cholesterol by making your fewer LDL cholesterol receptors live longer than usual because there isn't PCSK9 taking them out of use.

Sorry, I was being basic and simple. Perhaps too simple.

Yes, I'm on the PCSK9 inhibitor.
It allows the liver to absorb cholesterol. Normally, my liver, doesn't do it so well so the cholesterol builds up and the inhibitor removes the barrier ........... or that's the way I understand it.

That's great......but I along with many others have had the opposite experience and they made my life hell. I only felt human again when I stopped taking them.

I have read somewhere that one's response to statins depends upon the individual's genetic make-up, and this has been put forward as an explanation of this difference.

I'll try to read through this rather long but relevant thread later. I'm on 80mg Atorvastatin after a double heart bypass in early June. However, my GP has already said that he wants to trial a reduced dose in the new year.

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my moto g(6) using hovercraft full of eels.

I was on 80mg Atorvastatin for ten years before I came to my senses.

You won't get me taking any statins again.
