Bike with Jet Engine
Bike with Jet Engine
I bought a bike to cycle with my son this summer and recently I had this crazy idea to use my bike as a test bench for a turbine engine. A bit of fiddling and two weeks later here it is.
Ill upload a link to some video footage shortly.

You'll never know if you don't try it.
Re: Bike with Jet Engine
Mine is a bit more sedate than that cycleruk, and possibly more practical if there is such a thing .
here is the first video i took yesterday.

Re: Bike with Jet Engine
quite interesting watching the three videos - three very different takes on the theme - love that Colin Furze, wonder what would happen if he teamed up with Guy Martin sometime?

Brilliant, just need an afterburner now for when that following car gets too close.

Reminds me of the chapter in Frank Zappa's autobiography entitled "How I Almost Blew my Nuts Off."
Re: Bike with Jet Engine
Here is the second video. At around 40mph the steering felt a bit shaky might need a steering damper, or maybe it was me shaking because I was so cold. i reached 45mph and was still accelerating but didnt push it any further.

Re: Bike with Jet Engine
Can you estimate it's fuel consumption? Just for my interest, I expect it will be utterly dreadful.....
Pushbike hardware (chassis, steering, tyres, no suspension, bike brakes) really aren't anything like sensible for 45/50mph, I'm relieved you made discretion the better part of valour....

This surely can't be legal on a public road?
Re: Bike with Jet Engine
This odd documentary also features a rocket-powered bike (trailer here):

(although can't remember if it really 'powered' the bike more than creating an exciting tail of flame, which in my book is also good).

not rocket powered, but I think my favourite "assisted" bicycle ever....

Re: Bike with Jet Engine
I know this is just a bit of fun but you have , in effect, entered the world of motorcycles.
The cycle helmet is unsuited to speed tests around 40mph, you will be wanting a motorcycle helmet (and leathers) to protect you in case of a fall. That fall seems much more likely than on a motorcycle because your bike hasnt got the right handling potential and the thrust is coming from a location likely to destabilise.
Add to that, if an unfriendly copper is called to the scene, you can have a few chapters of the book thrown at you, for riding a motorcycle without everything.
Despite those words, it is nice to see somebody doing something novel by themselves.
