Hi all
I have a Brompton with the regular seat-post. It's about 2.5cm too short for me at the maximum extension. There are two options from Brompton: an extended seat-post, or a telescopic one.
Does anyone know if you can trim the extended seat-post to the right length? Since weight is a bit issue, I want it to be exactly the right height, but I don't know if that's possible.
Thanks for any help!
Edward

Re: Brompton seat height
IIRC the extended seat post is +6cm. If you don't trim it (using a hacksaw) to the length you need, this can affect the folded size of the machine by, er, about 6cm or so.
The extended post is not expensive, but before you buy one don't forget that;
a) the pentaclip can be fitted at slightly different heights on the 7/8" section of the standard seat post
b) the saddle rails can go above or below the bolt on the pentaclip; if they are in the latter position at present, you have about 2.5cm height there for the taking
c) if you don't like your present saddle you could change that and perhaps gain ~2cm extra height or so.
cheers

Cracking - thank you Brucey.
Re: Brompton seat height
as per brucey, clip at top of post and rails above bolt can add a couple of inches.
if you trim an extended post it will pull straight through the frame as it relies on the end flare to act as a stop.

Re: Brompton seat height
If the extended post proved a bit too tall, then the new high limiter could be used with it so that it is the correct height at full extension. The height limiter is a tube, cut to suit your requirements that fits over the seat post before inserting it, to act as a stop for the extension of the post.

Re: Brompton seat height
I have an extended seatpost on my SL2-X. I used the standard set-up for a while until I switched saddles. The pentaclip didn't work the new saddle (San Marco Concor Superleggera) so I bought a one-bolt micro-adjust seatpost in the right diameter to fit the Bromton seatpost.
This made it much easier to get the right seat angle for the Concor and my seat height now is always spot-on
