Caliper brake release lever

Post by Williamalan »

Can anyone tell me where to find a quick release lever like this for caliper brakes?
The bolt on mine has sheared and local shops don't keep them any more.
Thanks

It looks like an old Weinmann one, I had one on some Weinmann 605's a long time ago. Probably needs to be a now not supplied part. I might have a rummage, I might have one somewhere, possibly with a caliper attached, possibly on its own.
Whether the Shimano one on the Ebay would fit is debatable.
If nothing was found, if I remember correctly, a standard Weinmann adjuster will fit the caliper, but you would loose the QR aspect.

Yes., as you say, the part on my link won't work but there are plenty of Weinmann 605s on Ebay.

Thank you cycleruk and PT1029.
As you say, there are Weinmann 605 brakes on ebay with exactly the bit I want to replace.
But the prices are £50 and upwards ! A lot to pay for a small convenience.
Thanks for telling me what to look for, but for now I'll have to do without.
Or is there some less rare adjuster I could use instead?

I took a very similar device off my Rudge Bi-frame. It may have gone to my local bike recycling charity but there's a chance it's still in my parts box. I'll have a look for you.

Could you cut one of these in-line adjusters into the cable screwed out fully, then screw in to give you a bit of slack when you need to remove the wheel.

Colin54 -- Thanks for the tip. The picture looks promising.

Thenorthwind -- Fingers crossed you may find one. I'll wait and see if you post further news.

I found this. Not quite as I remember as it's got a bracket to go round the steerer (1"). Any use to you?

I think this

will either fit or can be made to.

Most good LBSs would have a collection of things like this at one time. This part is found on standard weinmann and dia compe calipers, others too. The fitting through the brake arm is common to the brake you have, I think.

cheers

Thanks, thenorthwind. That looks as if it might do the job.
If you don't mind parting with it, can I send you a stamped addressed jiffy bag? -- if you can let me know where to.

Thanks, Brucey. What I'm after is a fitting that can open the brakes with a single flick, making it easy to remove the wheel.

I'd not come across them before but this - Shimano SM-CB90- seems to add a QR as well as an in-line barrel adjuster to any brake.
