Music was never my strongpoint especially after the 1970s!

Grand old thread, and I too miss Karrimor.
My bike has a pair of green standard rear "silverguard" panniers which I bought in the early-mid 1980's. Even the original bungy-clips are still elastic and working. The bike's bar bag is a good deal newer, cordura fabric, but still in the traditional green. None are waterproof anymore for touring, but liners can deal with the rear panniers. All are still in regular use, both for touring, and for carrying the shopping, or other general stuff.
Not to mention several rucksacs from their "great" period, one being a very battered shopping pack, and another brought out for ski-touring because its just the right shape.
Not sure what to get if they wear out.

Do they ever wear out? I'm still waiting.
If they didn't work well I wouldn't still use them. A bit of updating and repair and they're fine.

Re: Vintage 1980s Karrimor catalogue
I have an old Karrimor "Bum-bag" (Cyclone 7) which has two main compartments and two mesh side pockets for water bottles. It's back is padded and the whole thing is very well made. My wife has just stopped using a small Karrimor back-pack which has finally given up the ghost after many years of use and abuse! They don't make them like they used to.
I bought several cycling jerseys branded Karrimor from Field and Trek a few years ago. They were £7 each and are very good. F&T also had them under the Muddy Fox label. I did not know then that F&T were part of Sports Direct and that Karrimor existed in name only. Having found out how Sports Direct operate I refuse to buy anything from them but the jerseys are still doing a good job. It just shows that you do not know who you are dealing with these days.

Re: Vintage 1980s Karrimor catalogue
My italian partner had a karrimor rucksack back in the late 70s - their reputation went a long way. By the by (though not too far from karrimor and carradice) i discovered in the kitchen of the mediterranean beach place a kitchen tool from Prestige. I think the Prestige place is now a retail park or something, possibly selling amongst its sheds chinese made stuff branded karrimor. I have one or two latter day karrimor bits. Will put on here for sale later.

Interesting collection of old Karrimor, Carradice & Chossy catalogues on eBay. £15 starting price seems a bit steep though
