Phone Holder \ GPS Computer

Post by Samuk »

Hi All,

New to the forum..

Just bought me a Scott CR1 Bike - bike in in great condition and came with some extra's and at a bargain price..

Can someone please help me with the below..

Needed to get a phone holder for my bike - not really riding in the rain, was wanted something small light and easy for me to pop my phone on and off it.

Any thoughts on this?

Also looking for a GPS Computer - looking for something small and that gives me the data i need, speed, distance etc..

Thanks
Sam

Decathlon do this

Which does everything you want it to do, and there are numerous GPS apps out there for cycling that would do everything you want without having to have a separate unit.. I'd looked at a GPS unit but they are let down by battery life, if you want to record time and distance a cheap Cateye speedo does the job

Had one of these on the go for the last 4000+ miles and still on the original battery :)

FWIW I use one of these: http://getfinn.com/en/.

It's a lot more stable than it looks.

Not as easy to mount your phone as the one you linked to but considerably lighter and cheaper.

The first time I used it, I was dead worried about over-stretching it but after quite a few rides it no longer bothers me.

The elastic band is not phone specific but, if it helps, I use a Motorola G third generation.

Look no further than the Garmin Edge 20, or if you fancy a bit more, the Edge 25.

Small, neat, simple to operate, records distance, speed, average speed etc and if you want to load a course into it, it will give you turn by turn directions.

I bought a 20 a few weeks ago, and I'm very pleased indeed with it. It cost £72 from Millets with a 10% off discount code.

+1 for Garmin edge 20/25

Also easy to switch between bikes as no wheel size adjustment is needed.

One down side is a charge only lasts about 8 hours

Sorry, I should have specified that it was the OP phone.

8hrs isn't long really I agree, but the Edge 20/25 aren't aimed at long-haul tourists.
8hrs will get me 100miles or perhaps less, but that's far enough considering I would be riding from home and back.

On a longer journey, I'd take my Montana. That'll go for up to 15hrs on three AA batteries even with the big bright full colour screen.

My iPhone running GPS, track recording, mapping app as well as GSM, GSM data e-mail, etc. lasts longer than that. And smartphones are continually dismissed by dedicated GPS fans as not having adequate battery life.
