Reuse vape bottles make perfect oil dispensers
Reuse vape bottles make perfect oil dispensers
At work I noticed our posse of Vapers filling their devices using these little 50ml plastic bottles.
Mmm me thinks - these might do as oil dispensers! These bottles tend to be discarded once used so it was easy to blag an empty one. They are quite flexible with an extended 8mm nozzle.
This nozzle is a simple insert into the bottle and can be pulled off without problem. Fill using an oil can and the result is an ever so handy oiler which is small enough to carry on the bike yet so good that it is what I use to lube the bike at home & also for household tasks such as door hinges. The long nozzle is perfect for lubing derailleur pivots with precision.
If anyone remembers the old trick of using an ear-drop bottle I can confirm that these vape bottles are so much better due to their fine nozzle and case flexibility which allows perfect oiling. I now only use the oil can for filling up these useful bottles!

I shall keep my eye out for one of them. Reminiscent of Tippex thinners bottles, my previous weapon of choice.

They come in smaller bottles as well e.g. 10ml- perfect for a 'one shot' of chain lube to keep in your saddle bag.

These little bottles are so obviously useful that I have a collection of them, but I can't find a use for them!
I suppose that it would cost very little to pop one into an envelope for anyone who sends me a p.m. I reserve the right to change my mind if I find a problem, but if you want one free of charge, send me a p.m.

Isn't it a blooming shame?

But the postage will probably cost more than if someone buys a new one and just throws away the contents!

That original contents is ermm, oil, is it not?
Would it be any good on your chain? I could fancy a fragrant one
Trying to retain enough fitness to grow old disgracefully... That hasn't changed!

Your chain may begin to spout smoke like a dragon .

Re: Reuse vape bottles make perfect oil dispensers
E Liquid Ingredients:
Propylene Glycol (PG) – this is used as a base or carrier for the nicotine and flavors. ...
Vegetable Glycerine (VG) – also used as a base or carrier for the nicotine and flavors in e-liquid. ...
Water – no explanation needed.
Flavorings – food flavorings are added to create a specific taste.
So not great for chain lubrication, very water miscible in fact and no it does not smoke, it vapourises when heated with a mini electric coil.

Good idea.
But I always see any smoking device, or things related to, as something to avoid. Not sure how many cyclists do smoke. Would those containers have any smell from that liquid? I've no idea, perhaps I'm wrong and they don't smell.
Found myself using the little containers of Soy sauce that you get in packed Sushi. Not saying that is the best food, in fact I get them from my colleagues (I pack my lunch every day). They wok a treat!
Small ones will do one chain only, the bigger ones can be used 3-4 times. My opinion is that there's no need for more. You leave home with the bike in good conditions, and the chain lubricated enough. You add lubricant when it needs, so even if is raining all the time you may well do 100 miles before having to lubricate the chain. If is dry, make it 3 times more. Unless being in a very remote area, there will be a shop on hand, if there's need for more.

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...

Gattonero - interesting multi tool! Do you know the make/model?
Thanks
Re: Reuse vape bottles make perfect oil dispensers
Is a simple Lezyne SV11, does all that needs doing and the allen keys are decent quality. Very light

Thanks Gattonero. It's now on my "want" list
Re: Reuse vape bottles make perfect oil dispensers
It's not expensive either, and seems to last (I use it wisely, and at home I use bigger tools)
