Novel use for downtube boss

Post by AaronR »

Happy happy :)

Only using one of the downtube bosses on my Cross Check frame, but had to find a use for the unused one on the left hand side of the frame

Had to raid spares pot for a longer bolt to fit the boss, a washer and a bit of foam to replace the rubber washer the bell was supplied with, and enlarge the hole in the base plate of the bell mounting, but it fits perfectly, rings nicely, and looks far more finished than the rubber lump that was fitted when the frame was powder coated

Use bell infrequently, and have been reaching down to that area of frame to change gear on old bike (and loads more as a kid) without too many issues

Just please to be making use of the other boss

Nice! A button head to secure it would be nicer though.

I fitted a small bell to my winter fixed in exactly the same manner, it works really well in that position. I used a Danish 25 Ore coin which has a perfectly sized centre hole , to act as a washer & securely clamp the bell against the boss - just to be a bit different 8)
