Front Derailleur compatibility

Postby LaidbackMalc » 8 Jun 2017, 1:37pm

Hi, I have a nazca fuego recumbent that has a SRAM X7 rear derailleur, Shimano 9 speed cassette, at the front are SRAM X7 twist shifters and a Shimano triple Deailleur (bottom pull). Front chainset is Truvativ elita GXP Chainset 50/39/30.
The front derailleur has broken and was told by nazca in Holand that a Shimano Tiagra 4503 or a Shimano 105 (5703) would work fine. The problem is finding the Tiagra, found one supplier, which still has not arrived after two weeks from UK. Can anyone suggest an alternative that is readily available in the UK
I don't wish to have to replace the rear and front system to make things compatable though, thanks for any help.
regards malcolm

Probably a Shimano Sora FD 3503 9 Speed Triple will be equivalent to the Tiagra or 105 9 speed triple (which are not longer available as they have gone to 10 and 11 speed)

When searching for older Shimano parts that appear to have disappeared from UK sources, I go to German suppliers, such as Rose and Bike24. Rose list the 105 model you want in a choice of colours from £14.50, add shipping and its about £22. If it proves to be a wrong part against your bike, I've had no problems returning stuff to Rose in the past, including getting postage costs of the return covered.

Thanks guys, if I have to, I will give Rose a try. Ticks me of when they stop supporting the older gear, I don't want 10 or 11 speed sets, it's cost's enough at the moment to replace the chains on my recumbent, needs three chains, not cheap, so 10 or 11 would bump the price way up. Changed my chains a month back, so not will to do it again.lol

105 5703 is 10 speed so speed you say your bike is 9 speed the 9 speed Sora mech FD-3503 would be a better match
