Blocking Caps
Anyone know where you can get the plastic blocking caps to insert in the hole where the bottle cage bosses screw in?

Never seen such a thing - I just get some allen bolts (I think they are M5) in stainless steel, and a washer to suit, and screw that in. All the unused threaded bits on my bikes are done like this, even on the dropouts.

could try at the LBS; some new bikes come with such things fitted. Plastic screws exist and they are just the job for blanking purposes too.
Mad thought; would the little end bit (with a little whittling to size) from a BIC ballpoint fit....?
cheers

I use these neat button head stainless steel bolts. M5 x 10mm. Also useful for blocking off any other 5mm unused threads

Re: Blocking Caps
You could try these - come in different colours too!

Might be slightly too big as thread narrows the m5 hole down a bit

That's surely the way...... Then if you lose (for example) an M5 screw securing something else whilst on the road, you have an available spare!

Re: Blocking Caps
Grub screws with some thread lock might be a neat way of doing it if bolts are not sufficiently low profile. You could finish it off with a drop of wax.

Re: Blocking Caps
My better bike has all the unused bosses filled with disc rotor bolts which have a button torx head and as I had so many of them they all match.

Same here.
Re: Blocking Caps
Hi
I wouldn't recommend thread lock in this case. Even the weaker varieties commonly available have a 6Nm breaking torque, which can be enough to cause problems

I agree that allen key grub screws are problematic if they need any high torque value to shift them. I would perhaps suggest that if you want to use such screws, a few turns of PTFE tape is usually enough to seal and make the screws stay put whilst allowing them to be removed later if required.

Re: Blocking Caps
I recall working on motorcycles where all of the allen bolts were wearing little caps, an ebay search for Allen bolt covers reveals you can buy them.
