Dynamo help please.......
Re: Dynamo help please.......
Ah, yes, Lux.
I had been chatting with someone who is getting a battery light measured in Lumens.
Neither of us has any clue as to how bright each other's lights are.

Re: Dynamo help please.......
Lumens only tell you how bright the bulb/emitter is anyway. Two 200lumens lights can look quite different. At least lux is a measure of how brightly it lights up the road (10m in front of the bike, if it's the German standard measurement).

Nice, thanks.
Just as an update, Bike-discount.de still haven't replied to my email about the lead that was meant to be in with the light.
I asked about it on the 20th September.
Good prices, but am not convinced by customer service.
They said they might take 5-7 days to reply in their automated response.
I am now at 9.5 working days.
It would be a long time to cycle in the dark without a rear light wouldn't it?
I was cycling on the pavement for a while waiting for them to reply.
Luckily, I had a bit of two core I could use, but it still took up a bit of time I could have done with doing something else.
Re: Dynamo help please.......
the last B&M lightset I bought, the lead for the rear light came with the front light, well hidden inside the packaging.
cheers

It was a public holiday in Germany on Tuesday and many also took Monday as a bridging day so might be a backlog. The lead for the rear light should be with the front light
I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my D5803 using hovercraft full of eels.

Re: Dynamo help please.......
Oh, right, well I bought a second hand front light.
No rush now anyway as I bodged one together, just letting people know my experience.
But the advert seems to say it comes with a 2m cable.
Doesn't it?

Re: Dynamo help please.......
Hello Grarea,
just to confirm, as per image below, the B&M Secula Plus should come with the cable, spade connectors & a largish cable tie. All enclosed in the rear portion of the main packaging....you didn't chuck it out by mistake??!!
All the best, Simon

Re: Dynamo help please.......
Nice one, thanks for that.
Good point.
But, no, I haven't thrown anything away.
I kept it all together when I didn't have a cable.
Nice to see what it should have looked like though.
Pretty unimpressed that I still haven't heard back.
Loving my light though.
It gives off an excellent light.
There aren't many people that I come into contact with that don't get to hear that I have a dynamo hub

Re: Dynamo help please.......
I have been pestering people telling them about my dynamo decision
Anyway, I have now had a few comments back who have seen the rear light in action about how bright it is.
(Having spotted me on the road on the way in)
They have been impressed with its brightness enough to comment.
(One is an ex copper)
I am dead pleased with that decision.

Re: Dynamo help please.......
IIRC the secula isn't that bright compared to some of the battery lights time trialists and others use, but it illuminates a good area, which seems to help perception.

Re: Dynamo help please.......
My hunch is that for the same brightness, a larger evenly illuminated lamp is more effective than a small point source when viewed from not very close, ie from an approaching vehicle

Agreed.
Do you mean that the secular plus is a small point of light or a larger evenly illuminated one?
(I have experience of one (now) decent rear light)
Have I mentioned how pleased I am with the dynamo decision?
I am amazed by the amount of options available now.
Such a long way from anything I had years ago.

I've never seen a secula but Mr SWHs liked it due to not being a raw 5mm LED size point source:
but a ring but he claimed the central reflector was also illuminatet a bit too
I do have a duxo line style lamp thought which is nicer that its Arcus predescessor

Re: Dynamo help please.......
Just thought I would update people on Bike-discount.de customer service.
I am still awaiting a reply.
I emailed them on the 20th September.
Yes, I received an auto confirmation.
But just in case, I sent another one on something like the 30th.
I shall now send another one.
I am glad it is only a cheap part that I am querying.

Re: Dynamo help please.......
I got a reply from them at last.
It was from a Mr Morgenschweis
Is that an actual German name?
Doesn't it translate as morning sweat?
