I was gifted an identical model to this recently-
It actually rides quite nicely (I`ve been mainly riding an oversized aluminium framed Giant hybrid for some time by comparison)
Seatpost dia is 25.4 (1"), top and seat tubes both 1 1/8".
Is this likely to be plain gauge CrMo 4130 or not even that? It looks very similar to a Raleigh recently on sale here that looks about the same era.-

"not even that" sounds about right.
It may still be nicer to ride than a lot of Alu framed machines, despite being heavier.
"never look a gift horse in the tubing..."....?
cheers

`Hi-tensile`i suppose then.
As in another running subject ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=117623 ) The Giant is noticeably light when bare but has a heavier fork and stem (1 1/4" compared to 1") I also found it necessary to add a (quite `lumpy`)`suspension` seatpost to the Giant to smooth out tow path riding which this British Eagle doesn`t need. The real weight difference starts becomes less.
