Avid Single Digit 7 V-brake recall

Postby LollyKat » 21 Oct 2017, 11:28am

"SRAM. LLC has determined that some of the Avid Single Digit 7 brakes may have been manufactured with rivets which may work loose from the brake unit which can cause one of the two brakes to fail.... The affected brakes were manufactured between June 1, 2014 and May 26, 2017."

I bought a pair of these from Evans in July and have just had an email from them - more details and how to find the date stamp on the brake here. Evans, and presumably other shops which have sold them, will fit replacements free of charge.

presumably the rivet in question is the one that holds the V-pipe yoke?

Three years of manufacture is an awful lot of brakes!

IIRC that is a two-part pin, failure would ve pretty easy to spot because one side would noticeably stick out.
A squeeze in the vice or a hammer blow should fix it, or if a suitable strong pin or M3 bolt can be found, the original one can be drilled out and replaced.

But if a replacement is offered, should come with new brake pads, so go on! 8)
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...
