pedals stiff to turn?
I had one of my road bikes serviced recently. Since then I have noticed there seems to be more resistance to turning the pedals, almost like the brake is on (I've checked - it's not!) And also turning the pedals backwards when stationary there seems more resistance. I have checked with my other bikes and there does seem to be quite a difference. Could it be the BB or rear wheel hub bearings?

I presume that by "turning the pedals" you actually mean turning the cranks?
Unship the chain and turn the cranks to check the BB.
Similar at the rear, turn the back wheel with the chain off and see if it spins freely.
Same with the cassette, either remove the wheel or chain and turn it by hand to see if there is any drag.
Other possible is the jockey wheels binding in the rear mech'.
Although if it was the jockey wheels then as you turn the cranks backwards the mech' would rise and the top run of chain would go slack.

Thanks! Yes I meant turning the cranks. I'll give it a go. Don't know if it is related to the recent service as only noticed it since then.

Sound advice from CyclerUK, but if you have just had this serviced and you are unsure take it back to the shop that serviced it and explain your problem. At least give them a chance to rectify there mistakes.

They had to replace the derailleur hanger, could it be to do with that?

A bent hanger could be caused by the mech' taking a clout in the first place. See if you tell if the mech is twisted/bent.
But as NUKe said above, take it back to the bike shop and see if they can offer advice or rectify it.
You'll never know if you don't try it.

I wasn't aware that the mech had taken a bash nor the bike fallen over on that side.

Drop the chain off the chainset and see if the crank is still stiff to rotate, if it is it's down to the bottom bracket being at fault. Was this replaced by the shop?

It was the BB. All sorted now thanks.
