Helmet Storage

Post by carlislemike »

I put this under technical as I guess it’s more than just general. What are pros/cons of storing helmets in the bike shed along with my other bike paraphernalia and the bikes?

1) extreme Heat vs extreme Cold?
2) possibly Humidity
3) close to their actual point of purpose ie the bikes
4) keeps the ‘manageress’ off my and my daughter’s cases as ..., “ they clutter up the place!”

Any ideas esp re 1 & 2?

Mildew likes cold : damp : still air

Mildew finds organic matter yummy : sweat : grease : dead skin cells

Thus Mildew may develop on straps and pads.

Maximum ventilation may mitigate or avoid mildew.

I think I've got one in my garage somewhere, too.

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my SM-G930F using hovercraft full of eels.

Hang them from the ceiling in the house, where they will not take any space

Not sure whether it might be too warm inside mind, maybe the plastic changes over time

Isn't it light that makes polystyrene degrade?

As Graham says, storing one in cold, damp and poorly ventilated conditions is just asking for mould to form in a very short space of time. Somewhere warm, dry and well-ventilated would be far better.

Thank you all very much for all the responses. Hooks in the under stairs cupboard will have to be the place.
