I am puzzled at the lack of spiked Marathon Plus style tyres:
surely avoiding punctures is even more desirable when you fingers will be cold when attempting to repair anything?
How come no spiked Marathon Plus style tyres?

Maybe it's that they expect that bits of glass will be underneath the ice and therefore not going to cause a puncture.
More seriously, I would guess that they don't want too many models of spiked tyre, and figure that the extra weight of the "plus" layer would harm sales if applied to the Marathon Winter.

Stuff that might cause a puncture comes in contact with the studs, rather than the rubber, for the most part.

Simple solution. Just fit the studs on top of the M+.

A person cycling in winter who doesn't want to slip on ice? They could fit ordinary Pluses in summer. But I like the add on stud belft for hub/disc brakes.
