My tuppence on this is that a few years ago I spent £50 to go on a wheel building course. It was really enjoyable and subsequently I have built a couple of wheels, re-rimmed half a dozen and trued a couple of dozen. I don't consider myself a "wheel-builder" as such but the course gave me the confidence to realise that it ain't rocket science. The £50 has saved me several £100's and given me much satisfaction to boot.
