is it possible to narrow a sturmey 5 speed hub (https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hubs-intern ... b-36-hole/) to fit a 120 frame???

the coaster brake version?

No; the brake makes the hub a bit wider than the rim brake version.

cheers

I got my SRC5 down to about 122mm by replacing the big locknuts with narrower ones.

on the other hand one would be well advised to install a locking washer on the RHS in order that the RH cone doesn't precess into the hub and smash it to bits. SA's current owners think this it is a good idea to leave this out, despite the fact that the previous 100 years have seen this as a consistent (and necessary) fitment.

This means that there is no real scope for narrowing the OLN on the RHS; even with thinner locknut fitted the spacing is about the same once the necessary washer is fitted. There is a bit to come on the LHS, not much.

A rim brake version of the same hub (S-RF5) can be spaced down from 120mm (stock) to about 116mm IIRC.
