3x 28 hole - spoke head interference?

Post by iow »

how can I work out if 3x lacing on a 28 spoke wheel build will cause spoke heads to be covered by crossing spokes?
XR31 rims (580mm erd) x miche RG2 hubs (spoke hole pcd front 41mm, rear 47mm).
thanks..

IIRC some of the spoke length calculators flag a warning when this is likely. There is also a calculator that is meant of e-bike wheels that shows a diagram of the finished wheel. However the devil is in the detail; whether there is a clash or not may even depend on the rim diameter in some cases.

cheers

Having laced many hubs like that, I can tell you that is fine. Usually you have a problem only when the hub flange is <40mm and/or a rim with a small ERD.
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,
since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are...
