Vintage Raleigh - rider weight

Post by Cycle77girl »

Hi

For a while I’ve been considering a vintage Raleigh shopper bike (Twenty, Saffron, Solitaire) for my short commute to work.

Does anyone know the maximum rider weight for these bikes?

Thanks

the frames are built in a fairly robust way, so ought to be OK, provided they are in good condition. Same goes for the cycle parts.

However any bike is more likely to break if it has a heavy load (rider plus luggage) on it. Weight limits are necessarily approximate but vary (for modern bikes) from ~90kg to ~135kg.

cheers

Hi
I use to work in a bike shop in the late 70s, and a regular visitor to our workshop was a Raleigh 20 which was forever breaking spokes in the back wheel
It's owner (and I still remember her name) was large, maybe 20 stones, but other than the back wheel that bike was fine. The main tube and hinge (if fitted) was massively over-engineered
