I have a rather old Marin Point Reyes hybrid, owned since new in about 96. It’s still my only bike, for family biking and the odd 60 miler by myself.
Front chain rings were starting to slip, can’t believe how many thousands of miles they have done,,,
Had to Remove crank but the old threads were damaged by the crank removal tool. Tried a gear extractor, but that couldn’t pull it off without damage. Suffice to say I no longer have a front crankset.
Now is there anything I can replace it with. Google searches for a 42-32-20t have found nothing other than references to ‘vintage mtb....’.
Other info
- On the rear is an 8 speed cassette with Shimano Deore mech
Front mech I think it Shimano XT
Removed crankset was 175mm 42-32-20, CSS III Sugino, made in Japan for white industries.
Shifters are 24 speed indexed gripshift.
Bottom bracket is sealed with square push on for cranks if that makes sense.
So any thoughts on how easy it is going to be to find a replacement that will fit/work?
Cheers,
