How effective are these has anyone used them and if so how does it effect steering and do they ever come loose?

Anything a bit longer might be a bit less rigid
Make sure all bolts are tight
I have a swivel stem, the bars can be removed after unscrewing four allen keys, much better than the old type and lots of adjustment
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

I have a very long one 120mm I think. Hasnt been a problem but then I aint an animal yanking the 'bars. Wouldnt have to use one if bike makers sold the steerer uncut?

Due to a stiff neck I've used them for years (various makes, including cheap Chinese copies ex EBay) and never had a problem.

do they ever come loose?

Surely there's no reason why they are any more likely to come loose than a stem?
