I suspect some people are thinking too hard. Its not an issue to sling a fixed wheel together if ratios are not crucial and a half link is used. There are two bikes sitting out there with vertical dropouts that I have done. What is annoying is pulling them apart many times and a simple formula would be fun to use. Can not be bothered to strip out another, take bits off other bikes etc only to find that its all a few mil out or that I need to buy a new chain ring..
Never bothered with a QR on vertical drop out bikes so far as the wheels I used had solid axles. Equally never had an issue with QRs on normal drop outs or track ends.
Sticking flats on axles is, I thought, a pretty common fix. Did that as a kid.
Thanks for the link, that was what was needed.
