How to get identical Suntour forks for Cube E-bike ?

Post by alrob »

hi im new to the forum so not very up on modern bikes

my wifes cube e-bike took a front impact and bent the forks, my problem is I am having a hard time in sourcing new forks, she insists in the same forks which are according to spec "SR Suntour XCM34 Coil, Tapered, 15x110mm, 100mm, Lockout" it is a 29" wheel, i took the bike to a local high st retailer but I am not impressed with their knowledge

According to the spec you've posted the fork has a tapered steerer, that is 1 1/8"at the top flaring out to 1.5"at the fork crown. It also has a 15mm through axle, (not a 12mm axle that would be fastened with a quick release skewer). Quite often product specs for a bike are wrong or misleading when it comes to forks, so It would be helpful to post some photos of the existing fork, especially showing the steerer and the dropouts. The bike 24 link fits the spec you posted but the cheaper £70 fork does not, although if the front wheel on the bike has a standard 12mm axle secured by a quick release skewer, it may be that the straight 1 1/8" steerer model fork is being used with a bottom headset assembly that steps up in size to fit a 1.5" tapered head tube

OMG 7.45 lbs for a suspension fork surely this must be a typo error on the suntour website?

This page http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/contact/sr-suntour-europe/ has option to look up product from serial number.

However you will probably find that their UK distributors do not import the full range. (They do not list the variant on their B2B web sites)

FAX: +44 1332 274 203

So unless these UK distributors can do a special order from Suntour via one of their dealers. You probably not be able to obtain a identical fork 'retail'

You could also ask distributors if they have a service department and if the forks could be rebuild with the bent part replaced.

I expect that Suntour they would direct you to Cube. Have you been in touch with Cube or the dealer who sold the bike?

However you can open a support case on the Suntour website at link above.

If you could get a different make you can probably get a fork from another manufacture cheaper that a special order at full retail price may be -

You should also check that frame, to make sure it has not been bent or have small cracks- if you do not have knowledge to do this best to go back to supplying dealer.

I wouldn't necessarily trust the stated spec for the bike. Photos of the actual fork that got damaged, removed from the bike would help. Measuring the axle to crown distance will help to ensure you don't end up with a 100mm travel fork when you need a 130mm, or vice versa. You could also end up needing a new headset and front wheel if you get the wrong model. By the way I'd also get the bike professionally checked over to check for frame damage.

It's crazy but I wouldn't be surprised for a cheap 29er coil fork with 34mm stanchions.

I suppose it does not matter too much if you want it for an electric bike.

Get in touch with Cube or the dealer who sold the bike.

That would be your best bet.

Good luck!
