(sorry - eventually I will figure out how to insert pics).
The round chunky rear with two independently switchable rows of lights.
Managed to buy another new one recently (lost an old when when it bounced off a seatpack) and on unpacking it found that inside the two battery compartments are two rolls of low friction plastic - forming a sort of sheath, but not a sealed/continuious sheath so can easily be pulled out.
Are these just packing material or are they supposed to be retained and protect the electronic innards in some way?
If they are left in they make getting the batteries out rather, more than tricky, particularly using rechargeables, which as I understand it are often slightly larger than their AA equivelents.

Re: Basic question on Cateye TL-LD1100
I'd always believed them to be a battery sleeve, to prevent rattling and ensure good electrical connections.
It does make it damned hard to get Eneloops out.

Re: Basic question on Cateye TL-LD1100
As above, packing to prevent batteries moving.
The predecessor, LD1000, did not have this and a piece of cardboard between the batteries fixed any problems - much like Ever-Ready lights of old.

Re: Basic question on Cateye TL-LD1100
Ah, so not to protect anything then?
If just packing, since the fit is tight with rechargeables, it seems to me that I can use the lights without the sleeves.
If this is unwise for any reason, folks please let me know.

I accidentally left the plastic inserts out recently but the only difference I found was that it's easier to get the batteries in and out.

If they had any more critical role I'm sure it would say so in the instruction book. They don't even get a mention.
Re: Basic question on Cateye TL-LD1100
Thanks folks.
Yep, I checked the instructions as well gaz - as you say it says nowt.
It is a nice light - bought it for touring so that I can near standardise on AA batteries for front and back plus Garmin.
Light been discontinued a few years ago I think.
